Inclusivity Commitment

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is committed to creating learning environments that support and are improved by a diversity of thought, perspective, and experience. We affirm that the lives and experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color matter. We recognize that within the study and culture of mathematics and statistics there are deep-rooted and systemic inequalities, racism, and sexism that have disproportionately affected some members of our community. We strive to recognize and reverse these inequities. We embrace all backgrounds, identities, names, and pronouns. We see you, we hear you, and we stand with you. You are welcome in our department.

Check out TSPE Math's site "MΣΣT a Mathematician!", a collection of video interviews with mathematicians. The mission of MΣΣT a Mathematician is to share stories of mathematicians from different backgrounds, especially from historically excluded groups, with the aim of introducing students to role models and fostering a sense of community.

Remote Learning

In the fall, most Mathematics and Statistics classes will meet in person, although a small number will still be available online. For those meeting online, it doesn't mean that you'll be working on those classes alone! We may not be able to meet in exactly the same ways as before, but we can still use a variety of online tools to provide structure, deliver content, make the class interactive, and develop a true sense of community between you, your instructor, and your classmates.
