The HDPT (Harrisonburg Department of Public Transportation) operates all JMU campus buses, and all rides are FREE for JMU students, faculty, and staff. HDPT also run "Shopper" buses that go to various areas on campus and even major shopping centers! The Shopper buses run Monday - Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The JMU Bookstore offers an interest-free payroll loan to full-time, non-probationary JMU faculty and staff who have completed at least one full year of continuous full‑time service at JMU to purchase a computer directly from the bookstore. The loan can be used to purchase computer hardware, software, and accessories, as long as all items are bought through the JMU Bookstore.

JMU Counseling and Psychological Services offers confidential counseling and psychological assessments for children, adolescents, adults, couple, and families with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, separation, loss, etc. They also offer individual counseling, play therapy, and couples and family counseling.

The Counseling Center provides JMU faculty and staff with crisis consultation, guidance on recognizing student distress, and access to no‑cost self‑care spaces (The Oasis & The Studio). Through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), most employees can receive up to four short-term counseling sessions per issue.

After six months of empolyment, full-time employees are eligible to take up to two courses and one lab per semester. Wage employees become eligible after completing 1,000 hours of employment and can take one course and one lab per semester.

Information Technology offers a wide range of resources and support services for JMU faculty and staff. For all technology-related questions and issues, employees can access the IT Service Portal for assistance. The JMU Meteorite Collection is located on the first and second-floor hallways in the Physics and Chemistry Building. Inside, you'll find one of two large iron meteorites and samples from asteroids, Mars, the Moon, and more! The other meteorite is located in the lobby area of the John C. Wells Planetarium.

The Meteorite Collection is open to the public and is free of charge to visit.

The JMU Music Academy provides a fun environment for beginners and developing learners. During the summer, they offer a variety of music classes for adults, including guitar, piano, and voice lessons, as well as group classes for teens. These classes are open to JMU faculty, staff, students, and members of the local community. Classes are offered in either full or half sessions, and the Academy also hosts various musical performances throughout the year.

On Saturdays, the John C. Wells Planetarium will be open for FREE family and feature shows! Family shows are for families with young children (ages 4 to 8) with showtimes at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Feature shows are designed for middle and high school students and adults with showtimes at 2:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The Mineral Museum hosts a vide variety of gems and minerals. The museum is open to the public, but is currently closed due to construction and moving this summer. They are open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and the second Saturday of each month. These hours will resume August 26, 2026.

The EmpowHER program is a weekly resistance training program from the Morrison Bruce Center designed for women of any fitness level. Each week includes a full body workout with the possibility of resistance bands, kettlebells, dumbbells, Olympic lifting, or more being used. Participants will meet in Godwin Hall on Thursdays from 5:15 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

This program is FREE and all JMU faculty, staff, and members of the surrounding community are welcome to participate.

The Community Seed Library is a self-service and FREE seed library that provides seeds for vegetables, herbs, and flowers. They currently have two locations:

1. Rose Library - located across from the elevators on the 1st floor.
2. Massanutten Regional Library - located in the cabinet on the 2nd floor next to the reference desk.

The School of Professional & Continuing Education (SPCE) provides career-boosting professional development programs and opportunities designed to support JMU faculty and staff. One of these programs is the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI), which provides sessions that are led by JMU faculty members and guest lecturers.

Additionally, they have FREE events that are open to the public like NOONtime Knowledge and member exclusive events like Coffee and Company and Wine Down Wednesdays.

Talent Development offers workshops, certificate programs, and conferences to help JMU faculty and staff enhance their professional development. Inside of the lower level of the Music Building in the Music Library is the little Gallery Underground, a place where visual art and music are connected. The gallery features multiple rotating displays of artwork by local artists within the JMU community and more.

The University Health Center's Pharmacy is located on the first floor of the Student Success Center (SSC) and offers low-cost over-the-counter items for faculty and staff.

The University Recreation Center (UREC) provides many facilities and recreational programs for JMU students, faculty, staff to enjoy. In addition to fitness and recreation spaces, UREC also offers swim lessons, group exercise classes, cooking classes, and more.
