Transcripts
Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with your electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, you will be directed and required to submit to the JMU Graduate School an official transcript from any institution from which a degree has been awarded to finalize your admission. Transcripts are considered official if they are sent to JMU directly from the issuing institution.
Required by Program
- Curriculum vitae
- Personal statement including statement of research interests, goals for graduate study and beyond and how the Psychological Sciences program will help you achieve these goals
- Must choose a faculty member from Psychological Sciences as a potential mentor (can list two)
- Three letters of recommendation (from faculty members familiar with your previous academic performance and potential for graduate work)
- GRE General Test is required, but the subject area GRE is not required
Note: Although we request GRE scores, we use a “holistic” approach to admissions. If you do not have a current GRE score, were unable to take the GRE due to COVID, or have other concerns about meeting this requirement, please contact us about exceptions.
After our initial review of all applications, applicants who are considered for admission will be invited to visit campus sometime late in February. Applications received after that time are considered on a case by case basis. Please check our program website at www.psyc.jmu.edu/psycsciences/admission.html for a current list of dates and make sure to keep the listed date(s) available.
