In order to provide quality programs, activities, resources and advocacy, JMU has instituted an international student fee which will be assessed to all F and J visa holding students enrolled in full-time graduate JMU courses. This $100 fee is posted on each student's bill by the University Business Office every fall and spring semster. 

James Madison University requires all students and scholars on an F or J visa to have health insurance coverage.  International Student & Scholar Services offers a comprehensive health insurance plan through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI). Learn more about  health insurance.

All J-1 visa holders are required to have health insurance coverage. JMU will enroll you in health insurance coverage through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI). Learn more about F-1 and J-1 Health Insurance.

Students who are awarded assistantships typically receive substantcial funding to assist in covering tuition and living expenses.

Living Expenses & Visa Requirements: Living expenses for graduate students are estimated at $13,600 per year. International students must verify they have all educational and living expenses available for the first 12 months in the US to obtain a visa.

* Students in F-1 and J-1 status are required to enroll full-time during each fall and spring semeter but are not required to enroll for summer (summer tuition not included at left.)

** Tuition can be higher from some programs. Some programs have the option of taking more than 9 CH per semester, tuition at left reflects 9 CH per semester.

***If you plan to live in the U.S. for the full year (12 months), please plan for 33 percent higher living expenses. Living expenses are shown for 9 months.
