Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with your electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, you will be directed and required to submit to the JMU Graduate School an official transcript from any institution from which a degree has been awarded to finalize your admission. Transcripts are considered official if they are sent to JMU directly from the issuing institution.

  • Personal statement -The personal statement should be at least 1,000 words describing yourself. Go beyond the grades, honors, and work record that you have already provided on the application form. Instead, share with us the personal qualities and life experiences that form your character. Tell us about the challenges you have faced, the dreams that you are pursuing, and the discoveries you have made. What would you contribute to our learning community? In what way have you felt called to become a counselor?

  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Personal Interview -  We participate in an interview with selected applicants, usually during the end of January or beginning of February. Students who are selected for an interview will be notified as early in advance as possible. Students who are admitted into the program must have a completed background check on file prior to enrolling in classes. Information regarding how to complete this requirement is provided directly to students after admissions processes are completed. Please note that some internships sites may require a more rigorous background check as part of their placement process.
