Application Deadline
The JMU Master of Science in Applied Nutrition application process opens on September 1st. This is a two-part process with an application to the JMU Graduate School and an application through the Dietetics Inclusive Centralized Application Service (DICAS). We offer a rolling admissions process. Competitive candidates who have submitted both the DICAS application and the JMU Graduate School application will be invited to a Zoom interview. Admission offers are made on a rolling basis until the class is full or until two weeks before the start of the first term, whichever comes first (mid-June).

Transcripts
Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with your electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, you will be directed and required to submit to the JMU Graduate School an official transcript from any institution from which a degree has been awarded to finalize your admission. Transcripts are considered official if they are sent to JMU directly from the issuing institution.

The application is a two-part process.
- Apply to the JMU Graduate School
- Apply to DICAS
- Prerequisite courses in nutrition, microbiology, organic chemistry, biochemistry, human anatomy, human physiology, psychology, and statistics are prerequisites for admission to the program.
- Current ServSafe Manager certificate (or prior to the first fall semester)
- Personal statement (750 words)- In your personal statement, please reflect on the following questions:
- Why do you want to enter the nutrition and dietetics profession?
- What appeals to you most about our program?
- How has your experience and/or education prepared you to succeed in this program?
- What are your career goals? How will studying here help you achieve those goals?
- What other information would you like the selection committee to know about you?
- Three letters of recommendation (letters can be from anyone in a position to be able to speak to the applicant's potential for success as a graduate student.
- Zoom interview
Preference may be provided to eligible applicants who also have a minimum 25 hours of: general experience in a clinical setting (acute, outpatient, or long-term care) and/or experience shadowing a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in any professional setting.
GREs are not required and anyone can apply if they have the prerequisites.
