Transfer Pathways for this Major
The B.F.A. in Architectural Design requires significant coursework that is only offered at JMU, so you may want to consider planning to transfer after one year.
You should choose courses at your current school that satisfy specific general education AND major requirements at JMU. Use the list of equivalent courses in this major for course guidance so you can prepare for the portfolio review that will be part of your transfer application process.
In addition, to be considered a competitive student for admission, you should have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and successfully completed college course work in these core subject areas: English, mathematics, social science and lab science.

Additional Notes:
- Students must submit a portfolio of their work in order to be considered for admission to the program. See the department's website for review dates and more information on the portfolio.
- Please Note: ARCD 200 is the gateway course into the major and is only offered in the fall semester. Students accepted to the major who transfer in the spring will not be able to take major courses until the following fall semester. The prerequisites to enroll in ARCD 200 are FDS 102, 104, 106 and 108 (see above for VCCS and RBC equivalents).
- There is an additional admission process for architectural design. Admission to upper-division ARCD courses is based on completion of all prerequisite art courses and merit as determined by a faculty review of portfolios submitted in satisfaction of the course ARCD 208, Portfolio Review.
