Once you have been admitted and paid the tuition deposit, visit the Office of Orientation and Transitions website for information on your onboarding steps. This includes signing up for Transfer Orientation, a very important program that will provide you with critical information about transitioning to the university. Prior to attending orientation, you will enroll yourself in classes with your advisor's assistance. On your orientation date, you will learn all about JMU and meet other new transfer students.
Checklist for Matriculating Transfer Students
- Don't forget to have a final copy of your official transcript(s) sent to JMU. If you are transferring from a Virginia community college with an associate degree, make sure the type of degree you have earned is listed on the official transcript before it is sent to JMU.
- If you are transferring credit from a college or university outside the US, be sure to follow the steps for Transferring Credit from Outside the US.
- Review information about declaring a major at JMU.
- Sign up for Orientation.
- Review the Transfer Enrollment Modules in Canvas to understand how to read your Transfer Credit Report, learn about General Education, and more to prepare for orientation.
