To fulfill Federal research security training requirements, JMU requires covered project personnel to complete the Research Security Training (Combined) through the CITI Program.
Register or log in to the CITI Program at https://about.citiprogram.org/ and complete the steps to set up your member profile and affiliate your account with James Madison University. When adding courses to your profile, select "I need to take a course in Research Security." From the available options, be sure to select "Research Security Training (Combined)", as this course satisfies current sponsor requirements and is recognized by the NSF, NIH, Department of Energy, and Department of Defense. After adding the course, return to the Main Menu and click Start Now under "Courses Ready to Begin" to begin the training.
When you complete the course, please download and save the completion certificate for your records. If you are completing the training because it is required in order to submit a proposal for a sponsored program, you will need to upload the certificate in Cayuse for documentation purposes. Other programs require training to be completed before an award is issued.
If you have completed a different research security training that you believe satisfies your sponsor's requirements, please email OSP-AS with the information so that we can confirm.
Please note that Research Security Training is separate from Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training, which your sponsor may also require.
The NSF, NIH, Department of Energy, and other sponsors now require Research Security Training (RST), which includes training on current & pending/other support disclosure, prior to submission. If this applies to your proposal, OSP-AS will need to confirm that senior/key personnel (including co-PIs) have completed the required training before we are able to submit your proposal.
