Army ROTC Scholarship Program

Whether you're a college-bound high school student or already attending a college or university, Army ROTC (Army Reserve Officer Training Corps) enables students to enroll in elective leadership and military courses at colleges and universities in addition to their required courses.  Scholarships are awarded based on a student's merit and grades, not financial need.

Scholarships consist of:

  • Two-, three-, and four-year scholarship options based on the time remaining to complete your degree
  • Full-tuition and fees paid
  • The option for room and board in place of tuition, if you should qualify
  • Additional allowances for books and fees ($1,200/yr)

Living Expenses

Army ROTC scholarships also provide monthly living allowances for each school year based on your academic and ROTC level of curriculum.  All Military Science Levels (1-4), receive $420 per month (up to 10 months each year).  This stipend begins once you sign the contract.

This allowance is available to all contracted Cadets regardless of whether you're on an ROTC scholarship or not.

How to apply for the National High School Army ROTC Scholarship

If you want to apply for an Army ROTC scholarship while you're still in high school, you first will need to create a MY GOARMY account.  The application window opens up on 12 June after your junior year of high school.  The deadline for applying is normally around the first week of February of your senior year of high school.

Once you create an account, you will be sent to the MY GOARMY Log In page. Once you can successfully login to MY GOARMY, you can use your newly created account information to login to the scholarship application site.  There are three national boards which meet in October, January and March of a students senior year.  It is recommended to complete all application requirements at least a week prior to the October board so you can have multiple opportunities to be considered.  If not selected from the first board, your file automatically continues to the second and third boards.  You can also continue to update your file as you go along.

Campus Based ROTC Scholarships (for current enrolled college students)

There are also 2 or 3 year Scholarship opportunities for current college students.  These scholarship opportunities are merit based and are limited by current year funding.  Once you enroll in military science classes, the Recruiting Operations Officer will notify all eligible students about the current scholarships available, to include GRFD (Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty) scholarships.  GRFD Scholarships are for Cadets who commit to serving in either the National Guard or Army Reserves upon commissioning for a period of 8 years.  Campus Based scholarships are awarded based on an Order of Merit List (OML), which is developed based on the following criteria (college GPA, Army Combat Fitness Test score, performance in military science classes, a local board, an interview with the Dept Head, and overall potential based on the recommendation of your instructor).  The Professor of Military Science is the final authority on who receives a campus based scholarship.
