We are a co-ed club that is approximately 100 members. Throughout the year we compete through the National Intercollegiate Running Club Association (NIRCA) which involves hosting our own meet and traveling to other universities in the mid-Atlantic region. Our club operates year-round with cross country events during the fall semester and track and field events during the spring semester.

To be eligible for the competitive team, JMU undergraduate students must participate in the tryouts held at the beginning of each semester. Only those who demonstrate the necessary skill level, a positive attitude, and meet the team’s standards will be selected to join the competitive roster. The dates and times for tryouts are always advertised on the Instagram, @jmupickleball.

For the competitive team, there are mandatory practices held twice weekly, typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30, located at the UPark tennis courts. The competitive team can expect to participate in 2 to 4 travel tournaments per semester, having both one-day and two-day tournaments. Nationals in the Spring is the primary goal, traveling to participate in the largest collegiate pickleball tournament. The social team has an optional practice every Monday from 6:30-8:30p.m., also located at the UPark tennis courts.

For the competitive team, dues range from $100 to $115 per semester, which covers tournament fees, travel expenses, jerseys, and other team-related costs. The competitive team has an emphasis on fundraising so as to prevent any member from paying out-of-pocket besides dues. For the social team, dues are $15 per semester, which does towards fun events (including pizza parties) and student tournaments that enhance the fun and social experience.

Our competitive team is consistently ranked among the top 25 in the country.
