Avoid a Forfeit by Providing Advance Notice

Any team knowing that they will be unable to play a regularly scheduled game is provided the opportunity to "default" (cancel with advance notice) that game. Advance notice means a team member who is on the official team roster "defaults" by emailing urec-intramurals@jmu.edu before 4:00 p.m. on the day of the game or earlier.

Default Online before 4 p.m. on the Day of the Game

A team that follows the proper game cancelation (“default”) process will only receive a loss in the league standings as opposed to a loss AND a forfeit. Notifying UREC that you cannot field a team, with enough advance notice, allows time for the other team to be contacted with ample notice (and the other team may be matched up to play with a different team).

For more information on defaults, please view the Intramural Sports Handbook.

Canceling a Game After Noon on the Day of the Game

Teams that do not default via email by 4:00 p.m. on the day of the game will receive a "forfeit." For more information on forfeits, please view the Intramural Sports Handbook. It is still helpful for UREC to know if your team will be forfeiting and the best way to do this is to email urec-intramurals@jmu.edu.
