Overview
The UREC Aquatics program offers drop-in recreation and educational programs in our state-of-the-art indoor Aquatics Center which features two pools, a hydrotherapy spa and a sauna! UREC facilities are primarily for JMU students, faculty and staff (view our access policies). View our pool hours and policies.
Safety Programs
UREC is offers a variety of blended-learning (online and in-person) certification courses during the fall and spring semesters including:
- Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED
- CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers + First Aid
- Lifeguarding Certification Class

Aquatics Programs
The following programs are offered in the Aquatics Center during the fall and spring semesters:
- Float Friday
- Float into the weekend with us every first Friday of the month (2/6, 3/6, 4/3 and 5/1) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.! Music and float provided. No registration needed.
- Learn to Log Roll
- Learn to Log Roll will introduce you to the basics of log rolling and give you the opportunity to practice log rolling with other beginners.
- Swim Fit
- Swim Fit combines strength equipment, body weight exercises and water resistance training for a fun and effective 45-minute workout in the Multi Activity Pool and Fitness Channel. All fitness levels welcome, no swim experience needed. Instructors will be providing coaching and cues for swimming techniques.

100 Mile Swim Club
The 100-Mile Swim Club is a challenge for swimmers of all levels to track their progress toward swimming a cumulative total of 100 miles across different parts of Virginia. In Virginia, you could swim 100 miles from the Assateague Lighthouse, in Chincoteague, Virginia, to Cape Henry Lighthouse, VA Beach!
Members set their own pace and goals, fostering fitness, endurance, and community spirit. Participants will be celebrated at milestones along the way (10 miles, 50 miles and 100 miles) to build a sense of achievement and camaraderie with fellow swimmers!
Once you have registered, you will be able to track your lengths you swim at UREC and submit your distance each time you swim through an online submission form. We will track your total distances and you will receive UREC swag at the milestones below.

How to Register
Registration takes place online at urecregister.jmu.edu or at the UREC Welcome Center. For a list of current offerings, please click the "Register Now" button and click on the specific course of interest. Please direct registration issues or questions to the UREC Welcome Center (stop by or call 540-568-8734).
Please note that for Safety Certification Courses, plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early for your course. If you arrive later than the scheduled start time, you will not be permitted entry into the class and will not be eligible to receive a refund.
