The Furious Flower Broadside Gallery showcases broadsides by Black poets. Broadsides are prints of poems often intended to be plastered onto walls or framed. They can be digitally or hand printed, and may also feature graphic or fine art in conversation with the poem. Oftentimes, broadsides are printed in limited editions, which are numbered and signed by the poet and/or artist.
The inaugural exhibit of the Furious Flower Broadside Gallery highlights poetic “Dynamic Duos” who, through inspiration, mentorship, comradeship or combined labor, made lasting impacts on the legacies of Black poetry.
The gallery is free and open to the public this summer Tuesday-Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, between 9 a.m. and 12 noon, and first Friday receptions 5 to 7 p.m. in Furious Flower Poetry Center (Cardinal House, 500 Cardinal Dr.) on the campus of James Madison University. For visits outside of posted hours, make an appointment by calling our office at (540)568-8883 or email us at furiousflower@jmu.edu.
