Each year, the Integrated Science and Technology Scholarship Committee awards a variety of scholarships. These scholarships are made available to selected students through the generous support of ISAT students, faculty, alumni, and friends. Students are encouraged to apply for these scholarships through the Madison Scholarships Hub.

 

Scholarship for First Year Students
Jones Scholarship

Stanley (’54) and Rosemary Jones created the Jones Scholarship to open doors for promising and deserving students in STEM. The Jones scholarship supports an academic scholarship for one incoming freshman in the fall semester.

Recipients must be in-state students, have a declared major in: Computer Science, Engineering, ISAT, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Geoscience, or Biology, be a first-generation college student, and have applied to or been admitted to the Honors College. Recipients must remain in the major and maintain good academic standing. The scholarship is renewable for up to 3 years as long as these criteria are met.

No application is required. The Second Century Scholarship application process is used to determine eligibility for the Jones award. Learn more about Stanley and Rosemary Jones.

Madison Achievement Scholarships

The Madison Achievement Scholarships are merit-based awards that recognize a broad spectrum of accomplishment and potential. Academic colleges and departments are responsible for selecting individuals who possess scholastic achievement within a particular area of study and demonstrate promise to the university. No application is required.

Second Century Scholarship Program

The JMU Second Century Scholarship (SCS) provides financial support to exemplary students entering Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. SCS covers 100% of in-state tuition and fees and continues for a maximum of four consecutive years, pending continued exemplary academic performance. 

Criteria: GPA of 3.75 or higher (performance in science, technology and mathematics courses will receive additional consideration), demonstrated interest and commitment to study in a STEM area, declaring a major in the College of Integrated Science & Engineering or College of Science & Mathematics

Submit the SCS application through the Madison Scholarship Hub. Eligible students are encouraged to apply before the Early Admission deadline.

Scholarships for Returning ISAT Students
Verizon One Year Scholarships

Verizon One Year Scholarships are provided by the Verizon Foundation for women and underrepresented minority men who are continuing students in the Integrated Science and Technology program at JMU. Deadline announced by ISAT Department.

ISAT Director’s Scholarship

ISAT Director’s Scholarship is provided by ISAT foundation funds and is selected by the ISAT Director. Students, recognized as having the most promise for exceptional scholarship, will receive a small scholarship for one year. The award requires the students to be enrolled at JMU with an academic major in ISAT or Geographic Science and to maintain good academic standing. Deadline announced by ISAT Department.

Roop Scholarships

ROOP Scholarships are provided by the family of a former JMU professor. The scholarships will be awarded to students who have chosen to major in the ISAT, IA, or GS programs at JMU and who show promise of continuing outstanding academic achievement and service in these programs. Awards are contingent on availability of funds, academic achievement, and service.

JMU Foundation Scholarships

JMU Foundation Scholarships are offered through funds donated by faculty, alumni, and administrators for students who have chosen to major in the ISAT, IA,  or GS programs at JMU. Awards are contingent on availability of funds, academic achievement, and service to the ISAT, IA, or GS programs.

ISAT Education Scholarship

ISAT Education Scholarship is provided by ISAT foundation for one student who has chosen to major in the ISAT program and minor in education with an intention to teach at the secondary level, or be interested in the field of education. Award is contingent on availability of funds and academic achievement.

Conference Travel Scholarships

These scholarships will become available beginning each Fall of the academic year and were established to provide travel assistance to students presenting research papers at regional and national conferences. Awards may also be made to students demonstrating a need to attend a conference as part of furthering their education. The scholarships are restricted to students enrolled in Geographic Science, Integrated Science and Technology, or Intelligence Analysis.

Elizabeth Anne Gauldin ’50 Endowed Scholarship Fund

An endowed scholarship established by Elizabeth Anne Gauldin '50 to provide scholarship support for undergraduate students who are engaged in scientific research and the study of science. In particular, the donor wishes for this scholarship fund to support students of space education, a discipline within the College of Integrated Science and Technology and its NASA - Research Institute for Space Education. Each year, scholarship funds will be provided to one outstanding undergraduate student scholar, renewable for up to three academic years. The appointment of a student as a Gauldin Scholar shall follow the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships. Applications and deadlines for this scholarship will be announced by the ISAT Department.

Richard M. Roberds Scholarship Endowment

An endowed scholarship established in the spirit of celebration marking the tenth anniversary of the first Integrated Science & Technology graduate, the faculty in the Department of Integrated Science and Technology wish to honor their former colleague and leader, Dr. Richard M. Roberds, for his years of dedicated and outstanding service to the ISAT program. The Richard M. Roberds Scholarship Endowment will provide funds annually for an outstanding undergraduate student scholar majoring in the Integrated Science & Technology program at James Madison University. The appointment of a student as a Richard M. Roberds Scholar shall follow the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships. Applications and deadlines for this scholarship will be announced by the ISAT Department.

Maurice Wolla Scholarship Endowment Fund

An endowed scholarship established in the spirit of celebration regarding the tenth anniversary of the College of Integrated Science & Technology in the fall of 2003 by Prof. Ronald G. Kander, then Head of the Department of Integrated Science & Technology, and Prof. Robert A. Kolvoord on behalf of the faculty in the Department of Integrated Science & Technology to honor their colleague, Professor Maurice Wolla, for his years of dedicated and outstanding service as a teacher. It is intended that through this Scholarship, funds will be provided annually to an outstanding undergraduate student scholar who is majoring in the Integrated Science & Technology program of the University. Beyond the above provision, the appointment of a student as a Maurice Wolla Scholar shall follow the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships. Applications and deadlines for this scholarship will be announced by the ISAT Department.
