Internships

All departments in the college offer the opportunity for students to complete internships, and some require an internship. Internship opportunities in your area of interest can be found close to JMU and abroad. For more information about specific program internships, contact your department office.

In 2017, 452 students from our college completed 681 internships in 19 states & DC and 17 countries, gaining real-world experience at notable companies, including

Study Abroad

Students in the College of Arts and Letters participate in JMU Study Abroad programs at one of the highest rates of any college at JMU. Our students participate in fall, spring and summer in the London, Florence and Salamanca semester programs and our faculty offer more than 20 short-term summer abroad programs. 

Student Research Publications & Conferences
  • James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal (JMURJ) is a multidisciplinary, student-run, peer-reviewed undergraduate academic journal that gives undergraduates an outlet for their research and scholarship.
  • RhetTech—founded by the School of Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication—showcases exemplary work being done in undergraduate writing, rhetoric, and technical communication courses around the country.
  • Madison Writing Awards (MWA) is a university-wide biennial competition that celebrates writing across the curriculum in all undergraduate academic programs.
  • MAD-RUSH Undergraduate Research Conference features outstanding work by undergraduate humanities and social science majors across the eastern United States and has become one of the largest humanities and social science undergraduate research conferences in the region.
