Curriculum and Instruction
JMU Curriculum Website - The Curriculum and Instruction process is mandated by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). The process at JMU is outlined in the Faculty Handbook.Faculty members can access existing courses and enter course information through this secure online curriculum system. Approvers are notified through email when proposals are ready for review.
First Week Attendance Policy
At the instructor’s discretion, any student registered for a class in the College of Arts and Letters who does not attend the first two (2) scheduled meetings of the class (or does not attend the first scheduled meeting of a class that meets once a week) may be administratively dropped from the class. Students dropped for non-attendance will be notified via e-mail by the Associate Dean of the College responsible for student academic affairs.
Students who fail to attend the first two meetings of a class for which they are registered but who do not receive an e-mail notification have not been administratively dropped by their instructor. Unless those students drop the course on their own, they will receive a grade at the end of the semester.
All students are responsible for verifying the accuracy of their schedules and changes made in their schedule via e-mail and through the web.
To request that a student be administratively dropped, an instructor should email Becky Childs (childsrl@jmu.edu) with the course name and number; student name and e-id/email address; and statement that this student missed the first two scheduled class meetings.
AI Guidance
All faculty in CAL should include an AI Policy in their syllabus. Click the button below to see CAL's guidance on developing your course AI policy.
This guidance, developed by a team of CAL AUHs, provides information for faculty to consider as you develop syllabi and course materials. In addition to the college-level guidance page, JMU libraries has provided resources on Artificial Intelligence in Education which include tools and workshops for faculty, staff and students.
