Dr. Vershawn Young is a Professor of Black Pan African and Diasporic Studies, Communication Arts, English Language and Literature at the University of Waterloo. His work primarily surrounds three areas of African American studies (gender studies, language studies, and performance studies). He takes an interdisciplinary approach to his work, drawing from communication, composition and rhetoric, education, American literature, and theatre disciplines. Formerly, Dr. Young served as a high school drama, English, and speech teacher; an elementary school principal; a supervisor of itinerant theater teachers in Los Angeles; and a school board administrator. He has served on faculty at the University of Iowa, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Waterloo, Canada. Dr. Young is currently the editor of CLAJ.
