Major Guide for Transfer Advising
Transfer Pathways for this Major
The B.S.N. program requires that transfer students spend at least 3 years at JMU. Therefore you might want to consider transferring after one year and doing a reverse transfer (complete remaining associate degree requirements using JMU courses). The recommended courses for your first year at the community college are:
SDV 101
ENG 111 & 112
MTH 155 or MTH 154 & 245
PHI 111 or 220
CHM 101
HIS 111 or 112
PLS 135
CST 100 or 110
HLT 110
HLT 230
Possibly BIO 101 - if required for the A.S. in Health Sciences at your community college; not required at JMU
If you are earning a transferable associate degree from VCCS or Richard Bland, you will still spend at least 3 years at JMU but will receive a full waiver of general education. In addition, you may want to consider following the guidance for equivalent courses in this major.

- JMU Next Transfer Advisors are available to assist you in selecting courses and planning to transfer to JMU.
You should choose courses at your current school that satisfy specific general education AND major requirements at JMU. In addition, to be considered a competitive student for admission, you should have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and successfully completed college course work in these core subject areas: English, mathematics, social science and lab science.

Not all courses may be offered at your community college, and you are not required to complete these courses in order to transfer. We recommend meeting with a JMU Next Transfer Advisor as you schedule courses at your community college.

- BIO 141 & 142/BIO 205 & 206 must both be taken at the same college in order to earn full credit for BIO 270 & 290 at JMU.
- CHM 111 & 112 (VCCS)/CHEM 101 & 102 (RBC) must both be taken to satisfy the chemistry prerequisite. CHM 101 in the VCCS is sufficient for this requirement.
