Criteria for Program Application and Admission
The traditional BSN pathway requires a secondary application for admission. Students admitted from high school typically apply in December of their sophomore year at JMU. Transfer students typically apply after completing one semester of full-time course work. Admission is competitive and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Nursing courses are restricted to admitted BSN students.
Applications for admission are accepted twice per calendar year.
- For admission to the Fall cohort, applications are due by December 1 and transcripts are due by January 11.
- For admission to the Spring cohort, applications are due by July 1 and transcripts are due by August 31.
- All deadlines are 5:00 pm EST.
Notes about Transcripts
- JMU transcripts do not have to be submitted. These will be reviewed when JMU grades post for the current semester. If there is a change to the JMU transcript after the last day of the current semester, applicants must notify the School of Nursing regarding this change.
- If you have taken a nursing prerequisite course at another college/university you must submit an official transcript to the JMU Office of the Registrar. This transcript must be submitted electronically (via Parchment) by the transcript deadline (August 31st for July 1st application, January 11th for the December 1st application) to the Office of the Register using the following email address: transfer_credit@jmu.edu
- If you have taken a course at an outside institution and repeated the same course at the same outside institution, you must send official copies of those transcripts to Ms. Rebecca Meadows at meadowra@jmu.edu.
- Transcripts that are emailed pdfs or scanned copies will not be accepted.
