The Traditional BSN program graduates 226 students per year and the BSN-Fast Flex graduates 30 students per year. Both pathways maintain a faculty-to-student ratio below 1:10, fostering close faculty engagement. Classroom and clinical courses incorporate patient care simulation,with high fidelity mannequins and standardized patients, who aretrained live actors to support students ability to make safe, independent clinical decisions in an authentic learning environment. In the senior year, the curriculum focuses on preparation for NCLEX-RN licensure and practice readiness.

The major is a part of the School of Nursing, an academic unit within the College of Health and Behavioral Studies.
During the first two years of study, students will take General Education courses in biology, chemistry, math and psychology, as well as a course in nutrition, while developing a strong foundation in the liberal arts.
After admission to either the Traditional BSN or BSN-Fast Flex, the curriculum consists of concurrent classroom courses, laboratory and simulation learning, and clinical practice experience. Students have opportunities for learning in a variety of settings including community, specialty, and academic medical centers and community hospitals; long term care facilities and clinics; and community based clinical learning experiences. The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at James Madison University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The program is also approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
