Faculty and Staff Regular Boosters

Am I eligible for a COVID booster if I work at JMU?

Yes. All JMU employees are eligible for a booster. The timing of your booster depends on when you received your initital vaccination:

  • If you got the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine or the Moderna vaccine: At least 6 months after the primary series
  • If you got the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccination: At least 2 months after the first shot.

Does the booster vaccine I get have to be the same as the first one?

Your booster vaccine does not have to be the same one as your primary series.

One of the m-RNA boosters (Pfizer or Moderna) is recommended for those who received the Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) vaccine. The FDA’s Advisory Council for Immunization Practices indicates you should strongly consider getting one of the m-RNA vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna) as your booster shot since they produce a significantly better antibody response than a second Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine dose.

Where can I get a booster vaccine?

To make an appointment for a booster, or an initial vaccine, visit the VDH website

There may be vaccination clinics at the JMU Convocation Center on Thursdays through Dec. 16, but you should confirm online in advance.

Where can I get more information?
