In the spring of 1939, Fraternity/Sorority Life began at what was then Madison College. Today, more than 4,000 students are strong and vital members of the fraternity and sorority community at James Madison University.

Our campus has a strong system rich with tradition. Today, we are proud to have a thriving fraternity and sorority system with 31 chapters on campus ranging from approximately 20 to 250 members making JMU Greeks 20% of the student population. We are proud of our organizations and strive to ensure that every student’s experience will be one of the most memorable of their collegiate career.

Guided by our dedicated staff and our core standards, Fraternity and Sorority Life offers students a unique opportunity to have a balanced college life with a focus on academic achievement, citizenship and social responsibility, member development, and philanthropy and service. Fraternity and Sorority Life allows students to make lasting friendships with individuals that share similar goals, ideals, and common purposes.
