This one-day program is designed to get you ready for your arrival on campus in August. This is a full day (7:45 a.m.-5 p.m.) of opportunities for you and your guests to discover everything that JMU offers. It's also when you enroll in your first semester classes! There are four Orientation sessions to choose from. 

Visit Info for Fall Admits or Info for Summer Admits to make your Transfer Summer Springboard reservation.

Students will join with other new transfer students to:

  • Meet your academic advisor
  • Enroll in fall classes
  • Get the inside scoop from TOPAs (Transfer Orientation Peer Advisers)
  • Prepare for your new life at JMU

Family members and guests will:

  • Discover more about student services and resources
  • Get answers to key questions

Transfer Springboard begins with check-in from 7:45-8:15 a.m. in the Student Success Center. At Check-In you'll receive important advising and enrollment materials to get started with your day. 

What to bring to Transfer Springboard

  • All college transcripts, including current unofficial transcripts and course descriptions
    • Students from outside VCCS should bring course syllabi
  • Picture identification (such as driver's license) with birth date for your JACard
  • An umbrella
  • Comfortable, casual clothes and shoes because you will be doing some walking
  • Your fully charged phone or device used for DUO authentication to log into MyMadison

Some area hotels and motels offer discounts to families attending Orientation.  You can select from our list to make your reservation today.  Don’t forget to mention that you are attending JMU Orientation when making your reservation.


7:45-8:15 a.m. Check-in
Receive a helpful packet of JMU information and enjoy refreshments and meet other JMU students, families, and guests.

8:25-9:00 a.m. University Welcome
Students and family members will be welcomed by the JMU President and a faculty member.

9:10-11:00 a.m.
