You will need to have completed a bachelor's degree with a background in physical or social sciences and a demonstrated interest in applying data science to societal issues. A background in introductory university statistics and beginning computer programming is recommended but can be remediated with the MATH 522 course offered during the summer prior to other certificate courses.
Yes. MATH 522 is offered the summer preceding other certificate courses to provide a fundamental baseline background in statistics and beginning computer programming for motivated students who do not have prior background in one or both of those areas. The course is not required for students who have documented background in both statistics and programming based on the admissions application.
