Welcome Honors Class of 2024! We’re so glad to have you join the Honors family. While we’re sad that our face-to-face interactions this fall will be limited, we hope the following resources will provide you with helpful information as you transition to the JMU campus and to college life. Honors Orientation activities will kick off at the beginning of move-in week, and are a combination of synchronous and asynchronous virtual programs along with limited in-person events. Late Night College-Prep Trivia! 

Join Honors faculty and Honors student representatives in a fun late night college-prep trivia game! Exercise your mental muscles before you start college. Hosted on Zoom, this session will use the Kahoot! trivia platform for a quick, competitive, and fun trivia throw-down. Participating current students will also share their JMU stories with you. Session will be limited to the first 100 participants, and one lucky winner will be able to claim an Honors swag pack.

We all know it’s an uncertain time. Headlines are presenting us with new questions and a lot of anxiety. This session is your chance to ask Honors faculty about how the issues that are keeping you up at night will affect your first semester at JMU. If you want to be part of the conversation, grab a cup of coffee and log on to chat. Move-in days… What to expect:
  • The Office of Residence Life assigned you a time slot for move-in. If you have specific questions about the dorm, your assigned time, roommates, etc., please contact the Office of Residence Life directly.
  • Friday, August 21 – Monday, August 24, 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
    At least one Honors staff or faculty member will be in the Shenandoah courtyard (access through the Multi-Purpose Room) available to answer your Honors-specific There will also be grab-and-go bottles of water and snacks available for you and your family. Physical distancing is required, as well as masks, in the Courtyard space.
  • Friday, August 21 – Monday, August 24, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. – Honors “Open” House
    Hillcrest House won’t actually be open, but Mr. Jared Diener, Director of Honors Advising, will be on the porch and available to answer any advising questions that you may have. Physical distancing and masks are required.
  • Friday, August 21 – Tuesday, August 25, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. – Hillcrest Packet Pick-up
    After unpacking, head over to Hillcrest House to pick up your welcome packet. We’ll have yard games on the lawn, ice cream, and the opportunity to chat with current students and Honors faculty. Unsure of how to get to Hillcrest? Join the GroupMe for notifications on where to meet a current student guide who will walk groups over from Shenandoah. Those of you moving in late on Monday will have an opportunity to pick up your packet on Tuesday – no need to rush!
