Application Deadline

Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis. All applications submitted by the below deadlines will be considered for the corresponding semester.

For Fall admission:  August 1st

For Spring admission: December 1st

For Summer admission:  April 1st

Applications temporarily close for maintenance following the deadline and reopen for consideration for the next academic year on January 1, May 1, and September 1 respectively.

Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with your electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, you will be directed and required to submit to the JMU Graduate School an official transcript from any institution from which a degree has been awarded to finalize your admission. Transcripts are considered official if they are sent to JMU directly from the issuing institution.

  • Bachelor's degree with GPA of 2.75 or higher on official transcripts
  • Professional resume
  • Personal statement
    • Two-to-three page essay explaining why you are pursuing this graduate certificate. The following prompts should be addressed:
      • Outline your current role and how you engage with the arts.
      • Explain the advantages you anticipate from completing the certificate program.
      • Share your future goals and how this certificate will contribute to achieving them.
  • One letter of recommendation
    • Applicants will submit contact information for their recommender as a part of the online application. We recommend that you contact your potential reference before entering their names. The online application system will send a e-mail to each of the people you identify and will ask them to submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf to the application system.
