For current JMU students completing a BS or BA in in the content area they wish to teach AND a minor in pre-professional Secondary Education. 

Application Deadline

Completed applications should be received at least 6 weeks prior to the start of the semester in which the student intends to enroll.

Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with your electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, you will be directed and required to submit to the JMU Graduate School an official transcript from any institution other than JMU from which a degree has been awarded to finalize your admission. Transcripts are considered official if they are sent to JMU directly from the issuing institution.

Required by Program

Current JMU undergraduate applicants, as well as post baccalaureate applicants, must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.7 or above.

No letter of recommendation is required. Two professional references will be solicited by the Educational Support Center later in the Teacher Education application process. References must know the candidate for at least 6 months in a professional capacity.

Test Requirements

Candidate completing their undergraduate degree and the Secondary Education pre-professional minor program at JMU must submit a Virginia passing score on the Praxis Subject Assessment to the JMU Education Support Center prior to beginning more than 12 hours of MAT graduate course work.
