The James Madison University Graduate School Advisory Board (GSAB) was established to provide a formal mechanism for incorporating external perspectives, industry best practices, and workforce insights into graduate education, program development, and strategic planning. The Board provides informed guidance on emerging trends, applied competencies, professional standards, leadership development, and evolving employer expectations, while complementing existing academic and university governance processes.

The GSAB brings together external members representing a diverse range of sectors, including industry, business, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. The Board also includes representatives from James Madison University, including Dr. Linda M. Thomas, Dean of The Graduate School; Dr. Orlandrew Danzell, Associate Dean of The Graduate School; and two additional university representatives.

The Board's work supports several strategic priorities of James Madison University, including:

• Strengthening engaged learning through internships, capstone experiences, and partnerships that connect graduate education with real-world practice.
• Enhancing career readiness and professional impact by helping ensure graduate program outcomes remain aligned with current and emerging workforce needs.
• Supporting interdisciplinary and applied approaches by encouraging innovation and collaboration across sectors and disciplines.
• Advancing civic and global responsibility by providing perspectives on ethical, regulatory, societal, and professional considerations relevant to graduate education.
