Maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is essential for continuing to receive financial aid. If a student does not meet the required academic standards, they may be placed on SAP Warning status.
What Does SAP Warning Mean?
A SAP Warning is issued when a student fails to meet the minimum GPA and/or Pace requirements during a given semester. While on SAP Warning, students remain eligible for financial aid for the next semester they are enrolled, but improvements must be made to avoid further consequences.
How to Stay on Track
To regain good academic standing, students should:
- Review SAP requirements to understand where improvements are needed.
- Seek academic support through tutoring, advising, or campus resources.
- Communicate with instructors for guidance and assistance with coursework.
- Develop a plan to manage time effectively and boost performance.
- Seek personal support through campus resources including the Counseling Center/Timely Care, University Health Center, Office of Disability Services, etc. A more comprehensive list of resources is available below.
Next Steps If SAP Standards Are Not Met
If a student does not meet SAP requirements by the end of the warning period, they may lose their financial aid eligibility and be placed in a Not Meet status. In this case, they will need to either:
- File an appeal explaining circumstances that affected their academic progress.
- Complete courses without financial aid until standards are met again.
