Class of 2027
Major: ISAT
Minor: Data Analytics and Honors Interdisciplinary Studies
Kaitlyn began her JMU journey with an undeclared major. She knew she wanted to pursue something in STEM, but was unsure. She narrowed down a list of majors that matched her interests and ISAT immediately stood out to her. because it offered exactly what she was looking for. "It offered me the opportunity to explore different areas while figuring out what fit me best." She enrolled in Professor Bachmann's ISAT course during her first semester, and it confirmed her choice. "I really enjoyed the group work, the collaborative environment, and the way the faculty treated students with respect as colleagues. By the end of the first semester, I knew ISAT was the right fit for me, and I officially declared my major."
Why did you become an ISAT ambassador?
I became an ambassador because I wanted to be more involved in ISAT, considering all it's done for me. As a freshman, I was anxious and overwhelmed, especially since I had started as an undeclared student. Being an ambassador gives me the chance to support students who might be in a similar situation. It also allows me to build stronger connections with other students in my major as well as with professors.
What clubs, student organizations, or activities are you involved in at JMU?:
I joined Theta Tau, during my second semester freshman year. It's been one of the best parts of my college experience; not only has it given me a strong network and close friends, but I also always have classmates I can rely on. I play on our intramural soccer and volleyball teams, which has been a great way for me to connect with people who share similar interests and workloads.
Favorite spot on campus?
The massage chairs in the Engeo sensory room, and on the 3rd floor in Rose, near the big windows for studying.
