Jamie Whisman joined the University Advising team at James Madison University as the Assistant Director in June 2023. Jamie brings many years of JMU experience and most recently, she served as a dedicated academic advisor in the Engineering Department at JMU. Jamie served as faculty advisor for the Engineering Ambassadors and taught the ENGR 101 course. In 2017 and 2018, she was honored with the Engineering Department’s Mentoring Excellence Award. In 2020, Jamie earned the Provost Award for Excellence in Full-time Advising. Jamie has served as a Learning Partner for JMU’s Alternative Break Program. She has completed training in Safe Zone, Mental Health First Aid and is certified in the Strong Interest Inventory assessment.  

In her current role, Jamie coordinates the Madison Advising Peers program (JMU’s student peer advisors), manages the First Year Advising Program in collaboration with Marquis McGee and Aimee Stright and serves as an advising resource for advisors and students across campus. 

In her spare time, Jamie loves spending time with her family, friends, and pets. She loves being outdoors, enjoys exercise, gardening, and cooking. Jamie is excited to join the University Advising team and looks forward to supporting student academic success and building partnerships with colleagues across campus.
