Happy spring from James Madison University’s School of Professional & Continuing Education (SPCE)! SPCE has worked incredibly hard this year to further our relationships within the community and across the JMU to elevate the amazing work of our partners. I am excited to highlight our unit’s most recent endeavors as well as some of our programmatic accomplishments.
As a unit, we have spent 2023 thus far diving deeper into SPCE’s mission of collaborating with individuals, businesses, and communities through transformative educational programs and experiences. We have been very intentional in creating short- and long-term goals to further expand our support to our community and region as well as provide high quality programming for our various audiences.
Through this work, our portfolio continues to grow in many way. Recent examples include:
- Our continued partnership with Shenandoah Valley Airport as we welcome and celebrate the new partnership with Contour Airlines to promote economic growth for our region.
- The hiring of our 2nd Academic Advisor to allow for more support for our quickly growing Adult Degree Program. We have 50 students graduating this May, and another 22 graduating in August!
- Our team is currently working with Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance on an extensive project to make Downtown Harrisonburg more accessible to all.
I encourage you to explore this edition of SPCE’s newsletter to learn more about the incredible partnerships that our Lifelong Learning Institute have created through intergenerational programming, our brand new and already widely popular Foundations of Project Management & Team Communication certificate designed and instructed by our Professional Development Team, as well as our successful first cohort of students in the Intro to Biomanufacturing Camp provided by our very own Youth Programs and Blue Ridge Community College.
I am so proud of the work SPCE and our partners continue to do to provide access, establish trust, and make a positive impact on this wonderful community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Nicholas J. Swartz
Interim Dean
