Even in normal times, training and development is a critical need for working professionals and businesses. When COVID hit, Professional & Continuing Education (PCE) Professional Development area was ready: not only did the online training programs continue, but new cutting-edge online bootcamps start this fall!

This fall’s major expansion in non-credit professional training supports businesses and individuals looking for high-tech, high-quality learning experiences that can be completed within weeks or months. New PCE Professional Development online bootcamps include Data Science, Data Visualization, Web Development, Cybersecurity, UI/UX Design, Cloud Computing, Agile Project Management, and more.

Of course, some readers may be surprised that JMU PCE offers these non-credit training options. This is understandable, as universities are mainly associated with credit-based degree programs.  However, JMU and PCE’s educational mission includes meeting individual and business needs. These needs frequently fall within technical skill areas, leadership development, and certification preparation. 

Thus, the new programs join JMU PCE Professional Development’s existing portfolio, which provides a range of training options for professionals, teams, and businesses. For example, the Lean Six Sigma Green and Black Belt Certification builds skills in a statistical approach to ensure quality in a production process.  Additionally, certification preparation courses set up participants for success in pursuing the Project Management Institute’s PMP or CAPM or the Society for Human Resource Management’s CP and S-CP. As another example, the JMU Paralegal Studies Certificate program assists individuals prepare for a new career in the legal industry – in just four months!

Virtually all non-credit programs are offered online, so professionals and businesses can be confident that working from home can also include training from home!
