MyMadison Log In Issues

If you cannot log in to MyMadison because you cannot get past the One Time Password (OTP) step or you are receiving another error message, please try the following:
  1. Clear your browser cache. Follow this link http://www.jmu.edu/computing/browser/index.shtml for information on how to do that for your particular browser.
  2. Close and reopen your browser. If you are a Mac user, quit the application completely and then reopen.
  3. If you can’t do steps 1 & 2 above, try another browser if you have more than one on your computer, or use another computer or device.
  4. Log in to  MyMadison at  https://mymadison.jmu.edu  with your JMU e-ID,
  5. Hit "Continue."
  6. Type in your password and hit "Enter."
  7. You will be taken to a page that says “Sending your one time code...” and your virtual authenticator (picture) will contain a field to enter the temporary password. If the code is sent to your email address and you are using a browser to access email, make sure you access your OTP email account (@dukes.jmu.edu, gmail, yahoo, etc.) in a new tab or window. If you navigate away from or refresh the page with the virtual authenticator, you will need to start the process over. Note: faculty and staff were not allowed to setup an OTP to their JMU Exchange email account (eID@jmu.edu).
  8. When you receive the temporary password (OTP), enter it precisely in MyMadison; make sure there are no additional spaces before or after the code.

If you see a yellow box on the MyMadison Login page that states “Your device’s clock appears to be incorrect,” or you are using the Safari browser and it states “Too Many Redirects”, or your browser keeps timing out, try the following:
  1. Check and correct the date/time settings on your computer.
  2. Instructions can be found here:   http://www.jmu.edu/computing/helpdesk/selfhelp/DateTimeSettings/index.shtml.
If you receive an error message “You are not authorized to login.   Please contact the Information Technology Help Desk.”
  1. Most likely you have answered your One Time Password Challenge incorrectly.
  2. This message indicates your account is locked.
  3. Contact the Information Technology Help Desk for unlock assistance.
If you receive an Oracle System Error "Contact your administrator if this continues to happen," try the following:
  1. Most likely you are attempting to use a bad bookmark to log in to MyMadison.  You may have saved the bookmark while you were logged into MyMadison or just after logging out, and that would save a session-specific URL that will not work.
  2. Delete the bookmark.
  3. Navigate to MyMadison by going to the main JMU webpage at http://www.jmu.edu:
  4. If you prefer to use a bookmark, manually create a new bookmark that goes directly to https://mymadison.jmu.edu.

If you still need further assistance logging in to MyMadison, please contact the IT Help Desk.
