MyMadison Log In Issues


If you cannot log in to MyMadison because you are receiving an error message:

  1. Clear your browser cache (check here http://www.jmu.edu/computing/browser/index.shtml for details)
  2. Close and reopen your browser. If you are a Mac user, quit the application completely and then reopen
  3. Or, try another browser if you have more than one on your computer, or use another computer or device
  4. Go to the MyMadison login screen at  https://mymadison.jmu.edu  and try logging in again
  5. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, check the error messages below for potential resolutions

If you receive an “Access Denied” error message:

  1. You may have missed the Duo enrollment timeframe that ended on April 11, 2018.  If that is the case, visit the IT Help Desk on the 4th floor of the Student Success Center, Bring a photo ID and a device (i.e. cell phone) for enrolling in Duo.
  2. If you are new to JMU, you may not have activated your JMU e-ID.  Check the email that you provided JMU for your activation link or contact your department/sponsor.


If you see a yellow box on the MyMadison Login page that states “Your device’s clock appears to be incorrect,” or you are using the Safari browser and it states “Too Many Redirects”, or your browser keeps timing out, try the following:

  1. Check and correct the date/time settings on your computer (instructions can be found here:   http://www.jmu.edu/computing/helpdesk/selfhelp/DateTimeSettings/index.shtml).  


If you receive an error message “You are not authorized to login.   Please contact the Information Technology Help Desk.”

  1. Most likely you have entered an incorrect password too many times and your account is locked  
  2. Contact the Information Technology Help Desk for unlock assistance at 540-568-3555


If you receive an Oracle System Error "Contact your administrator if this continues to happen":

  1. You may be attempting to use a bad bookmark to log in to MyMadison.  You may have saved the bookmark while you were logged into MyMadison or just after logging out, and that would save a session-specific URL that will not work 
  2. Delete the bookmark 
  3. Navigate to MyMadison by going to the main JMU webpage at http://www.jmu.edu
  4. If you prefer to use a bookmark, manually create a new bookmark that goes directly to https://mymadison.jmu.edu
