Netbooks:

Netbooks are one of the latest trends in technology. A netbook is a less expensive (typically $300-$500), small, lightweight, lower-performance, reduced-featured laptop best suited for web browsing, web applications and software that does not require significant processing power. They are not intended to be a primary computer, but rather a complement to a desktop or full-featured laptop.

JMU IT recommends departments delay purchases of netbook units until we have an opportunity to test the recently released Dell 2100. The Dell 2100 is part of the Latitude series of computers that enables us to perform warranty repairs in the event of a hardware failure. Netbooks are available from several other manufacturers, but IT is not able to provide hardware support for these. We anticipate having our testing completed by mid-July and will send an update at that time.
