Transfer Pathways for this Major
View the JMU B.S. Secondary Education Transfer Guide, which shows the courses to take at your community college for the best 2-year plus 2-year pathway to your major at JMU.
If you are earning a transferable associate degree from VCCS or Richard Bland other than the degree listed in the transfer guide above, your time to graduation may or may not be impacted. You will still qualify for the general education waiver at JMU. In addition, you may want to consider following the guidance for equivalent courses in this major.

Advising Notes:
- Consult the B.S. Secondary Education Transfer Guide for additional course recommendations based on your intended licensure area.
Additional Notes:
- The ideal pathway from VCCS to this major is the A.S. in Education/Secondary Education (consult the B.S. Secondary Education Transfer Guide). If your community college doesn't offer a degree in secondary education, you may complete a different degree based on the content you wish to teach (e.g. A.A. in English to teach English, or A.S. in Science to teach biology).
- Students interested in English, math or social studies licensure can choose between the undergraduate-only pathway (double major in the content area and secondary education) OR the dual degree pathway (major in the content area and minor in secondary education; requires a 5th year to earn the M.A.T.).
- Students interested in biology, chemistry, earth science or physics licensure must follow the dual degree pathway (see above note).
