Elizabeth Oldmixon was named Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Curriculum and Professor of Political Science effective June 1, 2022. Dr. Oldmixon leads JMU’s efforts in creating faculty development opportunities, overseeing academic program development and evaluation, and developing and implementing academic policy. She serves on the President’s Cabinet, the Provost’s Leadership Team, Academic Council, and the SACSCOC Working Group.

Before coming to JMU, Dr. Oldmixon served as Director of Academic Policy at the University of North Texas, where she advised the Provost and stakeholders on policy creation, revision and interpretation; co-chaired the Faculty Policy Oversight Committee; and worked with the Vice Provost for Faculty Success to support faculty development initiatives. Dr. Oldmixon also brings experience as the previous Faculty Director of the UNT’s branch campus in Frisco, TX, where she led the campus in implementing the university’s vision and strategic goals related to academic affairs; facilitated curriculum development and execution; and supervised and mentored a multidisciplinary faculty group that included representation from the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, STEM, and business disciplines.

An award winning educator, Dr. Oldmixon’s research and teaching interests focus on religion and legislative politics. She previously served as editor-in-chief of the journal Politics and Religion. She is formerly a Fulbright Scholar at University College Cork, Ireland; an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow; and a Texas Academic Leadership Academy Fellow.

Dr. Oldmixon earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Florida.
