Dr. Emmanuel Debrah obtained his PhD from the University of Ghana, Legon. His studies at North Carolina State University, Raleigh and the Graduate School for Social Research, New School, New York were part of the broader arranagements towards this PhD. He is a visiting scholar at JMU in fall 2025 during his leave from the University of Ghana, where he is a Professor of Political Science. 

He was the Chair/Head of Department of Political Science from 2011-2015 and Acting Head of History Department 2015-2016, and until his leave beginning August 2025, was the Director of Legon Center for International Affairs and Diplomacy at the University of Ghana. He was visiting scholar at Indiana University, Bloomington in 2015 and visiting professor at University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany and Tallinn University, Estonia in 2022 and 2024 respectively. His academic career spans over 25 years, and he has 46 publications, including 1 book, 2 edited books, 15 book chapters, 24 journal articles, and 4 technical papers.
