2025 International Mural Project, collaboration with artists David Draime and others in Downtown Harrisonburg. The mural, designed by Bahá’í artists in Iran, is supported by the Arts Council of the Valley and Draime Fine Art Studio School.

2024–2025 Traffic Cabinet Wrap Art Project, Harrisonburg, VA. Selected as one of ten artists to transform downtown traffic cabinets into public art, his piece, “Awa Wam,” was unveiled in October 2024 at the intersection of E. Market and N. Mason Streets with subsequent exhibitions at Marketplace Gallery and Harrisonburg City Hall.

COMMUNITY or PROFESSIONAL IMPACT:

Virginia Brain Injury Needs and Resources Assessment: A participatory action applied research project funded by the Administration for Community Living (ACL)/Commonwealth Neurotrauma Initiative (CNI), 2024-2026, $260,000. Principal Investigator: Cara Meixner. Research team includes Cynthia O’Donoghue (co-PI), Caitlyn Hewitt (research assistant, Psychological Sciences), Madison McGuire (research assistant, Psychological Sciences), Andrew Davie (survivor consultant), and Karen Grazionale (caregiver consultant). 

The Boys and Girls Club of Harrisonburg and Rockingham Country (BGHCR) & Madison Center for Community Development (MCCD) at JMU:  Anna Garst (1st Year, Psychological Sciences) evaluates and implements a mental health intervention at the Boys and Girls Club. She handles data management, analysis, club observations, grant writing, and reporting. Anna also develops program measures and assists with implementing Emory University’s SEE Learning framework to enhance social-emotional literacy. Daily, she leads or assists lessons, tracking their implementation. BGCHR and MCCD are fostering a healthier, more resilient community by expanding access to mental health services. 

Hunger Free Campus Advocacy Event (2025, January): Anna Garst (1st Year, Psychological Sciences) participated in an advocacy event at the Virginia General Assembly in Richmond, sponsored by Swipe Out Hunger, to support a bill funding universities to aid students facing food insecurity. She met with two Virginia delegates and three delegate staff representatives to discuss the bill's importance from a student perspective. Anna also attended a press conference where delegates and university students addressed food insecurity on college campuses. The bill has since passed both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Shanika Dove received the Helen Moore Award for the Pursuit of Counseling Excellence. The Helen Moore Award is presented to the Counseling Programs student who has been exemplary in pursuing counseling excellence. 

Marissa Hart received the Carl Swanson Award for Service to the Counseling Profession. The Carl Swanson Award is presented to the Counseling Programs student who has made significant contributions to the program and the profession.

Mackenzie Hammack, presented "Remembering Tutors Are Students Too: Advocating for the Recognition of Student Tutors" at the Mid-Atlantic Writing Center Association Conference. In April, she will present "A Community Building Remix: Zine Workshop in a University Learning Center" at the national Conference on College Composition and Communication. 

Benjamin Lundy, presented a workshop entitled "Training and Working with Generation Z" at the inaugural Administrative Professionals Conference, hosted by JMU Talent Development.
