Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with your electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, you will be directed and required to submit to the JMU Graduate School an official transcript from any institution from which a degree has been awarded to finalize your admission. Transcripts are considered official if they are sent to JMU directly from the issuing institution.

Required by Program

Admission to the certificate program requires that applicants have completed at least a bachelor's degree.

Personal essay -

Please submit a 450-650 word double-spaced personal essay describing your interest in pursuing this graduate certificate in data science for society.

  1. Describe how you anticipate using data science in the context of your career.
  2. Describe your current experience level involving computer programming and other data science tools.
  3. If your transcripts do not show successful completion of a college-level introductory statistics course, describe any other training or experience that might be relevant.

*Note: A summer start date is necessary for those students not already having completed MATH 522 or equivalent, or demonstrating equivalent knowledge, prior to beginning the  fall semester courses. The program will determine if this requirement is necessary, following a review of the applicant's professional experience, college-level coursework as demonstrated on transcripts, and/or other relevant training or experience.
