Scholarship Overview

An endowed scholarship established in 1996 by the J.C. Penney Company for the benefit of deserving students in retail studies at James Madison University. To be named a J.C. Penney scholar, a student must have a demonstrated interest in retailing and an outstanding academic record. Preference will be given to students who are J.C. Penney associates or immediate family of J.C. Penney associates.

Special application requirements

  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Provide letters of recommendation from faculty
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
  • Demonstrate character, ability, potential and leadership determined through in-person interviews
The nomination and awarding of this scholarship will be made in a manner determined at the discretion of the head of the Department of Marketing. Beyond the above criteria, the appointment of a student to receive this scholarship will follow the University’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
