The Department of Finance Business Law offers several scholarships and awards to sophomores, juniors and seniors majoring in Finance and Quantitative Finance. Below is a list of the FIN and QFIN scholarships and awards.
Finance Scholarships
Pay-It-Forward Scholarship
This scholarship is sponsored by Department of Finance and Business Law Executive Advisory Council (EAC), and is open to both sophomores and juniors in the Finance and Quantitative Finance majors.
Joseph T. Kosnik Memorial Scholarship
An endowed scholarship established in memory of finance professor Dr. Joseph T. Kosnik. One junior student is selected each year by department faculty based on academic performance.
A.J. ('92) & Beth Fischer Scholarship Endowment in Finance for the College of Business
An endowed scholarship established with a gift by A.J. and Beth Fischer to provide the financial resources to establish and support the A.J. (’92) & Beth Fischer Scholarship Endowment in Finance for the College of Business. One senior student is selected each year by department faculty based on academic performance.
Phillip H. Maxwell Endowed Scholarship
An endowed scholarship established by Dr. Philip H. Maxwell for Finance. One senior student is selected each year by department faculty based on academic performance.
Finance Student Awards
Outstanding Senior in Finance Award
Annual award to the outstanding senior majoring in Finance, who has demonstrated excellent academic performance, exemplary leadership, engagement and service, i.e., outstanding performance overall.
Faculty Award for Excellence in Finance
Annual award to the graduating senior majoring in Finance who has superb academic record, and demonstrated exceptional analytical skills and mastery of knowledge in the field.
Quantitative Finance Scholarships

Shelly Wheeler Quantitative Finance Scholarship Endowment
An endowed scholarship established by Shelly Wheeler for support of JMU students majoring in Quantitative Finance with a minimum of 60 credit hours. One junior student is selected each year by department faculty based on academic performance.
