Mission Statement:
The University of Western Australia is one of the largest research universities in Australia and has the highest academic entry requirements in Australia for its students. The School of Mechanical Engineering is one of the best in Australia and ranks with leading international universities in terms of research output and international standing. The school offers bachelor degree courses in Mechanical, Materials and Mechatronics engineering (with other schools in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics), as well as Masters and PhD degrees by research. Coursework postgraduate degrees are being introduced to match growing demand. Our graduates are keenly sought after by leading local, Asian and multi-national firms. Demining research started in 1996 and has been supported with grants, private donations and commerical research contracts totalling about (Au)$900,000 including significant grants from the US Army and the GICHD. Our aim is to understand the nature of demining and UXO problems in both the humanitarian and military context, and to work on solutions in selected areas, principally on humanitarian issues.
