Graduates, the world is always a rapidly changing place, perhaps even more so now.

I encourage you to continue your path to be a lifelong learner, to remain curious, and to stay connected and collaborate by whatever means necessary. Please keep doing, making, creating, teaching, and performing. The world needs to hear your voices and ideas, and I hope that you continue to strive to make your mark and take your next steps.

This video was created by the first-year Musical Theatre Class of 2023,
with a special appearance by their class TA, MT class of 2021. 

Names in order of appearance: Hannah Markley, Corinne Krasner, Nathan Yannarell, Angeline Ignacio, Isaiah Young, Olivia Palmer, Bridgette Carey, Layla Sartipy, Josh Higgins, Samantha Haughton, and Al Grvavina (2021). 

Olivia Palmer created the vocal arrangement and video.

Virtual Conferring of Degrees event is at 7:00 pm on Friday, May 8. Virtual Degree Conferral in which President Alger and other members of leadership will celebrate your accomplishments and recognize you as official graduates of JMU. There is also a digital commencement program that includes all the names of the graduates available online at

JMU ARTS COVID-19 Cancellations

The university is not closed.  In response to the COVID-19 virus, the university has deployed multiple forms of virus-prevention protocols and we are practicing social distancing and sheltering in place.
