Influences that lead me to become a DEI leader
As a member of the local Latino community, I have served as an advocate for the Latino/x communities on and off campus for my entire career, and I welcomed the opportunity to formalize that work and collaborate with the dean's office.
My favorite event from Fall 2020
I started a series of virtual discussions called Discussions on Diversity. In Fall 2020 the first panel was titled 'The Afro-Latino Experience.' This discussion allowed our panel and students to address issues of racial/cultural identity, and we shared how we were each finding space to participate in the BLM movement, personally and professionally.
How can faculty and staff best promote diversity?
Through the curriculum of their courses and through their interactions with students as an instructor and as a mentor.
