A Letter of Welcome from the
Vice Provost for Faculty and Curriculum

As Academic Unit Heads (AUHs), you have a variety of resources to assist with the day-to-day responsibilities of your position.  Primary among these are the other AUHs in your college and across the university with whom you will wish to consult.  This manual is a direct result of recommendations made by AUHs over the years.

While my office provides monthly opportunities for AUHs to meet to discuss issues and participate in workshops specific to the role of AUH, this manual provides helpful guidance and tips to point you to online resources and provide context for paperwork and the many aspects of your role.

We are pleased to launch the 2019 AUH Manual in its online format.  Many thanks go to Ms. Erin Phillippi, Academic Publications Coordinator and Ms. Judy Onestak in the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Curriculum for their work to transition this manual from paper to an online resource

The original framework for this manual was developed as part of a graduate student project completed by Ashley Privott when she was an intern in the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Development in 2015.  Dr. Traci Zimmerman, AUH of the School of Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication, took that framework and developed the first edition of the manual in 2016. My administrative assistant at the time, Ms. Karen Bennington, worked closely with Traci to give the document its professional look.

I invite you to offer revisions as you discover additional resources that are helpful to you in your AUH role.

Marilou Johnson, Ph.D.
