Title IX seeks to reduce or eliminate barriers to educational opportunity caused by sex discrimination, including sexual misconduct. The definitions we adhere to as a community and the process the university follows in responding to allegations of sexual misconduct are outlined in JMU policies 1346 and 1340.

Policy 1346 – Title IX Sexual Harassment prohibits sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation in its programs and activities in the United States, as required by Title IX and implementing regulations.

Policy 1340 – Sexual Misconduct prohibits sexual exploitation and non-consensual relationships as well as sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation that fall outside the scope of Policy 1346, including off campus and in programs and activities outside the United States.
