JMU Wireless Network Connectivity
This service assists students living on or off campus in getting their computer connected and functioning on the JMU wireless network.
Request Service: please read additional service information below before requesting service
- Contact the Computing HelpDesk at 540-568-3555 or e-mail helpdesk@jmu.edu for problem determination and authorization to drop-off computer for service.
Service Covers:
- JMU Wireless network connectivity issues.
- Hardware warranty repair verification.
- Telephone support for connectivity through JMU's on-campus wireless access points.
Service Does Not Cover:
- Backup of personal files. Support of gaming devices (Xbox, Playstation, etc.).
Student Responsibility
- Download and Install the JMU configured Wireless/Remote VPN client for your appropriate computer operating system.
- Contact the Computing HelpDesk at 540-568-3555 or e-mail helpdesk@jmu.edu for problem determination and authorization to drop-off computer for service.
- Provide a contact phone number when calling for assistance.
- Before dropping off computer, backup personal files.
- Check email frequently for responses from technician.
- Use Symantec Anti-Virus software freely available from the downloads site (http://www.jmu.edu/computing/downloads).
- Keep operating system and spyware removal tool updated.
- Computers must meet minimum JMU wireless hardware and software requirements.
Service Turnaround Expectations
- Information Technology strives to complete service within three business days. Many variables can influence turnaround time: high-volume periods (such as the start of a semester) and diagnostic time.
