JMU Wireless Network Connectivity

This service assists students living on or off campus in getting their computer connected and functioning on the JMU wireless network.

Request Service: please read additional service information below before requesting service

  • Contact the Computing HelpDesk at 540-568-3555 or e-mail helpdesk@jmu.edu for problem determination and authorization to drop-off computer for service.

Service Covers:

Service Does Not Cover:

  • Backup of personal files.
  • Support of gaming devices (Xbox, Playstation, etc.).

Student Responsibility

  • Download and Install the JMU configured Wireless/Remote VPN client for your appropriate computer operating system.
  • Contact the Computing HelpDesk at 540-568-3555 or e-mail helpdesk@jmu.edu for problem determination and authorization to drop-off computer for service.
  • Provide a contact phone number when calling for assistance.
  • Before dropping off computer, backup personal files.
  • Check email frequently for responses from technician.
  • Use Symantec Anti-Virus software freely available from the downloads site (http://www.jmu.edu/computing/downloads).
  • Keep operating system and spyware removal tool updated.
  • Computers must meet minimum JMU wireless hardware and software requirements.

Service Turnaround Expectations

  • Information Technology strives to complete service within three business days. Many variables can influence turnaround time: high-volume periods (such as the start of a semester) and diagnostic time.
