Adding a Network Printer

Windows XP Computers Using iPrint (alternate instructions for Windows Vista)
Read the instructions below and then go to:

Choose a printer from the list presented to install that printer and its associated driver on your computer. The printer names are based on the Department (first set of characters in the name), the Equipment Service Number (ESN) of the printer (second set of characters), the brand and model of the printer (third set of characters), and the type of driver software, usually PCL or PS (PostScript) - (example: IT-A2555-HPLJ4SI-PCL6). Most people will use PCL or PCL6 drivers.

Once a printer is selected, the following dialog box should appear if the printer is not already installed on the PC:

Click the OK button to install the iPrint printer on your system. Another dialog box will appear showing the status of the printer driver installation (NOTE: if a printer driver for the printer chosen and the operating system running on the PC is not available, the standard Windows printer driver installation dialogs will appear instead).

When the printer installation is finished, the following dialog should appear:

Click OK to end the printer installation. At this point another printer can be selected if more than one printer is desired/needed on the system. Each printer has standard option configurations but can be customized as usual from the Printers section of the Control Panel.

If you have difficulty completing this process, please contact the JMU Computing HelpDesk at 540-568-3555.
